With so many of us trying to save money in today’s struggling economy, we are often conflicted when it comes to buying organic produce. We’re told that organic baby formula is better for our children and better for the environment, but is it really that much better and is it worth the extra cost?

The Difference

Organic Baby Formula has been certified by the USDA and has to meet certain regulations. It’s made from either regular milk or soy milk (the same as leading or store brand formula), but the main difference is in how the milk has been treated. Organic milk is free from pesticides, hormones and chemicals found in regular milk, which in theory makes it a better choice for your baby’s delicate system than standard formula. However, some organic formulas have recently come under fire for their high levels of arsenic from the use of ingredients such as brown rice syrup. Often, organic baby formulas also contain high levels of cane sugar and additives such as ARA and DHA, which have been linked to health risks. It seems however, that the lower levels of chemicals found in Organic Baby Formula milk are better for your baby’s health, and so it may be worth investing the extra money and buy organic if you can afford it!

Price Hikes

If you do opt for organic, be prepared to pay extra for the privilege. Organic milk costs more money to produce, just as it costs more to grow fruit and vegetables without the use of pesticides and non-organic fertilizer. But bear in mind the benefits to your baby’s health and consider cutting corners with other products you buy, such as feeding bottles, accessories and clothes. By budgeting sensibly, you can cut corners on the less important items and spend more money on Organic Baby Formula, which will benefit the health and wellbeing of your little one, providing them with the best possible start. Of course, if you can afford to purchase a full range of organic products for your baby, then formula is just the tip of the iceberg. There are organic skin care products, including shampoo, lotions and soap and organic clothing made from 100% cotton.

It’s still unclear whether organic is best when it comes to baby formula, or in fact any form of organic produce. The term ‘organic’ will always come under fire due to the higher costs involved in producing organic products and growing organic produce, but ultimately, if you can afford to buy organic for your family and believe that Organic Baby Formula is making a difference to your baby’s health, then there is no reason not to purchase it.
